English & Creative Writing
Course Description:
Students will develop strong writing skills by focusing on organization, clarity, and effective use of language. This dynamic course, designed for students in grades 6-8, utilizes the IEW Structure and Style for Students (SSS) program to equip them with the tools to become confident and effective writers. Through a combination of lectures, hands-on exercises, and engaging writing projects, students will develop a strong foundation in sentence structure, paragraph development, essay organization, vocabulary expansion, and critical thinking.

October: 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

Wednesday Class Dates: September - November 2024
September: 4, 11, 18, 25
October: 2, 9, 23, 30
November: 6, 13, 20
*Tuesday class will be a 12 week course while Wednesday class will only be 11 weeks.
12 Week Breakdown:
- 1st Month - Review the fundamentals of English and the building blocks for effective writing.
- 2nd Month - Develop complex sentences using vivid language and a robust vocabulary, to write short essays.
- 3rd Month - Write longer pieces, persuasive essay structure, and creative writing exploration.
Tuition Per Semester: Tuesdays - $360 or $415 textbooks included or Wednesdays - $330 or $385 textbooks included
Required Textbooks: Structure and Style for Students: Year 1 Level B and Fix It! Grammar: Robin Hood, Student Book Level 3

Time: Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 10:00 - 11:00 am

Homework: Students will have weekly homework assignment including reading literature, projects, essays, and preparing for class quizzes and tests.
Note: Students will be graded upon class participation and weekly homework. Students will be required to purchase their own textbooks if not purchased in the tuition amount.
