English & Creative Writing
Course Description:
This course is designed to enhance students' writing abilities through a rigorous study of structure and style. Using the Institute for Excellence in Writing's Structure and Style for Students: Year 1, Level C as a foundation, students will develop a strong command of the English language while exploring their creative potential. Through a combination of instruction, practice, and feedback, students will learn to write clearly, effectively, and persuasively. The course will focus on building a strong foundation in grammar, syntax, and vocabulary. Students will learn to analyze and imitate various writing styles, developing their own unique voice. Additionally, they will explore different genres, including narrative, persuasive, and expository writing, as well as creative writing forms such as poetry and short stories. Emphasis will be placed on critical thinking, analysis, and the ability to communicate ideas effectively both in writing and through oral presentations. Students will engage in a variety of writing assignments, including essays, research papers, and creative pieces. Through peer review and teacher feedback, students will learn to revise and edit their work for clarity, coherence, and style.
